Steven was the negotiating and arresting officer of The Clairemont Killer, serial killer featured on America's Most Wanted! Long story of how it went down (he tells the story in this presentation, How to Get What You Want), but Steven was working the desk, couldn't leave, so he had to convince a serial killer to WALK INTO THE EAST PRECINCT of the Birmingham (AL) Police Department! The killer walked in and Steven placed the killer under arrest!
But that's not the only time Steven's abilities came into play, like the man who would not give up the butcher knife he had been threatening his wife with. The responding officer, his backup, the shift sergeant, or the shift captain could not get the man to relinquish the knife. The captain called Steven to the scene and asked him to persuade the man to relinquish the knife.
After a short interaction between Steven and the man sitting in the den, the man agreed to turn the knife over to Steven and even requested that Steven be the officer who took him to jail! THAT'S persuasion!
